Daisy Ridley is expected to return to the Star Wars franchise in her own new sequel to The Rise of Skywalker, even if things are moving very slowly on the film, but it looks like she is also being lined up to lead a comic book movie that Disney has owned the rights to for almost a decade without actually doing anything with it. While the House of Mouse has become the financial driver of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this new movie is nothing to do with the biggest franchise in the world, but the lesser known Delilah Dirk and the Turkish Lieutenant.
Created by Tony Cliff, the 2013 graphic novel has the following synopsis:
“Lovable ne’er-do-well Delilah Dirk is an adventurer for the 19th century. She has traveled to Japan, Indonesia, France, and even the New World. Using the skills she’s picked up on the way, Delilah’s adventures continue as she plots to rob a rich and corrupt Sultan in Constantinople. With the aid of her flying boat and her newfound friend, Selim, she evades the Sultan’s guards, leaves angry pirates in the dust, and fights her way through the countryside. For Delilah, one adventure leads to the next in this thrilling and funny installment in her exciting life.”
This would certainly be an unexpected movie for Ridley to head up, as many people believed that Disney’s priority with the actress would be her Star Wars future. However, the news shared by scooper Daniel Richtman did not go into details of when exactly this movie could happen, so it is still possible that it could happen after her New Jedi Order Star Wars movie.
Will Daisy Ridley Finally Get Her Own Comic Book Movie Franchise?
Over the last several years, Daisy Ridley has been rumored for several comic book movie roles that were just not meant to be. From Olivia Wilde’s Spider-Woman project to several possible MCU roles, Ridley’s time to shine in a comic book adaptation could be about to finally happen with a story that many people do not know. That could obviously be a good thing, as many still believe that comic book movies by Marvel Studios and DC Studios featuring the biggest superheroes in the world are still on a downward spiral.
Delilah Dirk and the Turkish Lieutenant has been sitting in Disney’s hands since 2016 when they bought the rights to adapt the story, but since then, there has been no movement at all on the project. With an air of a new Indiana Jones-style adventure about it, Disney could now believe that there is a gap in the market for a globe-trotting adventure that Ridley and Delilah Dirk could fill.
We will undoubtedly hear more about this project if it is indeed moving up the slate of Disney priorities, and perhaps we may find out what is happening with this movie before we finally get an update on Ridley’s next Star Wars appearance considering its currently slothful progress.
