Set phasers to fun… because LEGO has just announced that it is boldly going where it has never gone before by partnering with Star Trek for a new collaboration, much to the delight of Trekkies who have been wanting the popular toy brand to “make it so” for quite some time. The LEGO Group shared an exciting video in celebration of Star Trek Day on Sept. 8, teasing an upcoming set inspired by Star Trek: The Next Generation – and many fans are already in agreement that the first product of the new partnership is pic-ture perfect.

The short 15-second video (shared below) announcing the Star Trek x LEGO collaboration takes place in the USS Enterprise’s iconic transporter room, with a minifigure of Patrick Stewart’s Captain Jean-Luc Picard beaming into the scene, wearing his classic uniform. The video ends with Klingon script, which reads “tugh paw” and literally translates to “coming soon,” leaving spectators to speculate about the elusive release. “Can’t wait to see the Enterprise and the rest of the crew!” one person asserted in the comments section.

Product leaks this year have shown a set of Next Generation cast minifigures alongside a large USS Enterprise-D model, which looks to rival Star Wars‘ gigantic Death Star collectible (aka the most expensive LEGO set to date). This still seems to be the most popular suggestion based on the teaser video, but the good people of Reddit couldn’t help indulging their imaginations and considering what else might come of the partnership. “A Bird of Prey or a Romulan Warship would be tough not to buy,” one person admitted, while another remarked: “Probably unpopular opinion, but I hope they release some Voyager sets.” A third quizzed: “Could ‘resistance is futile’ mean we will also get a Borg ship later on?”

What’s Next for ‘Star Trek’?

Star Trek has been going strong for decades, but streaming kicked off a whole new era for the long-running sci-fi franchise, which dates all the way back to the original Star Trek series, created by Gene Roddenberry, that first aired on Sept. 8, 1966 (a date commemorated each year). Fans may soon be able to re-enact their favorite moments from the movies and shows released so far in LEGO brick form, but there are also several projects coming up that promise to explore strange new worlds and seek out new life and new civilizations.

Following the high-profile merger between Skydance Media and Paramount Global in August, two new Star Trek films were put into active development, both of which will be produced by J.J. Abrams’ production company Bad Robot. One of the movies will feature Captain Kirk and Spock along with other fan-favorite characters, while the other is an origin story set in the Kelvin timelime, which will be directed by Toby Haynes, who helmed episodes of Star Wars: Andor. There is also the new Star Trek: Starfleet Academy series in 2026, and future seasons of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, including a fourth season that will premiere next year, and a fifth and final season, which is gearing up for production – so watch this space… literally.
