One of the most underrated crime thrillers of the decade is about to leave Netflix. In 2015, Will Smith and Margot Robbie joined forces for a suave and sexy crime thriller about professional con-men constantly looking for the next big score, with their adventures taking them to major NFL games and even the Formula 1 circuit. The movie might not have found the love it deserved in 2015, either with critics or with audiences. However, after being added to streaming, the film finally received the attention it deserved. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end, and the crime thriller’s time on Netflix is soon coming to an end, so you need to watch it now before it’s too late.

If Will Smith and Margot Robbie weren’t dead giveaways (no, it’s not Suicide Squad), the film in question is none other than Focus. After playing the long con on Netflix, the film is set to leave the streaming platform this October. Directed and written by Glen Ficarra and John Requa, Focus came two years after Robbie’s big break in The Wolf of Wall Street, and helped to propel her career even further, even if critics weren’t impressed with the movie as a whole.

Margot Robbie stars as Jess, an amateur thief and con artist, who meets Will Smith’s Nicky, a major player in the world of con…people. Together, they plan and execute some major heists and swindles against the wealthy elite. Alongside Smith and Robbie, the film also stars Rodrigo Santoro, Adrian Martinez, Gerald McRaney, and BD Wong. The official synopsis reads:

“Nicky (Will Smith), a veteran con artist, takes a novice named Jess (Margot Robbie) under his wing. While Nicky teaches Jess the tricks of the trade, the pair become romantically involved; but, when Jess gets uncomfortably close, Nicky ends their relationship. Three years later, Nicky is in Buenos Aires working a very dangerous scheme when Jess — now an accomplished femme fatale — unexpectedly shows up. Her appearance throws Nicky for a loop at a time when he cannot afford to be off his game.”

‘Focus’ Is an Underrated Hidden Gem on Netflix

Warner Bros.

When Focus was released in theaters, critics were divided on the movie. The film holds a divisive 56% on Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences also had differing opinions about the movie, bestowing it with a similarly divisive 53% audience score. Focus managed to pull in decent numbers at the box office, although it wasn’t exactly the one big score that Warner Bros. was hoping for, as it grossed $159 million worldwide. As a result, Focus wasn’t exactly a flop, but it wasn’t much of a success either.

Despite the mixed reviews and the modest box office performance, Focus deserves a lot more attention. Smith and Robbie both turn in great performances as Nicky and Jess, with strong chemistry between them, as well as exuding that suave air that comes with professional cons and heists. If you haven’t given Focus a try yet, make sure to watch it before it leaves Netflix on October 1.
