As fans patiently wait for news on a second season, The Penguin has made DC history with a stunning win at the Emmy Awards. The HBO drama, set in Matt Reeves’ The Batman universe, starred Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti in the lead roles. While one faced a key loss at the ceremony, another has solidified herself as one of the most decorated Batman villain performances of all time.

In one of the most anticipated wins of the night, Cristin Milioti nabbed the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for her performance as Sofia Falcone in The Penguin. She beat out a stacked category that included Cate Blanchett for Disclaimer, Meghann Fahy for Sirens, Rashida Jones for Black Mirror, and Michelle Williams for Dying for Sex. Milioti is now one of the few actors to win a major award for playing a DC villain, joining the likes of Heath Ledger, Joaquin Phoenix, and Penguin co-star Farrell.

Meanwhile, Farrell lost out on the Outstanding Lead Actor award at the Emmys, despite winning Lead Actor in the Limited Series category in the latest Golden Globes ceremony. He lost to Stephen Graham for his performance in Netflix’s Adolescence. That said, on The Penguin side of things, it’s been a weekend full of trophy wins for the limited series, winning several key technical categories, including Best Original Score, Best Sound Mixing, Best Sound Editing, Best Prosthetic Makeup, Best Special Visual Effects, Best Contemporary Makeup, Best Contemporary Costumes, and Best Contemporary Hairstyling.

Is Penguin Returning in ‘The Batman – Part II’?

It’s been confirmed that Colin Farrell will indeed return as Oz Cobb in Matt Reeves’ The Batman – Part II. He’s one of the few cast members officially set to return in the long-awaited sequel, including Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon. Farrell recently revealed he was able to get his hands on the script by Reeves and Mattson Tomlin, and, unsurprisingly, praised it. “I haven’t got much to do on it, just a little bit. I read the script and it’s extraordinary,” Farrell stated.

The Golden Globe-winning actor won’t have a big role in The Batman sequel, but any amount of Oz Cobb will be welcomed with open arms by fans. It’s been a long wait for the film, and while The Penguin was a worthy follow-up, the main dish will be served when Part II hits theaters in October 2027. As of this writing, the film is set to begin production in early 2026, reportedly around April. Hopefully, fans will learn more about the sequel sooner rather than later, and if Emmy-winner Cristin Milioti will return as Sofia Falcone on the big screen.
