Severance was always a strong favorite to walk away with several Emmy Awards considering its total of 27 nominations. It certainly has not disappointed thus far, as it made history at the prestigious awards ceremony.
Severance actor Tramell Tillman has made history as the first Black man to win in the Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series category at the Emmys. His performance has been lauded ever since the Season 2 debut on Apple TV+. Britt Lower also nabbed Best Actress in a Drama Series for her performance as Helly R. and Helena Eagan. Meanwhile, the series lost out on the top prize in the Outstanding Drama category to HBO Max’s The Pitt, and Adam Scott lost to Noah Wyle for his job on the medical drama. Previously, Severance was nominated in 14 categories at the 2022 Emmy Awards, but ended up winning only for Main Title Design and Music Score.
The cast of Severance features Adam Scott, Patricia Arquette, Britt Lower, Tramell Tillman, Zach Cherry, Jen Tullock, Michael Chernus, Dichen Lachman, Sarah Bock, John Turturro, and Christopher Walken. Official plot synopsis:
In “Severance,” Mark Scout (Adam Scott) leads a team at Lumon Industries, whose employees have undergone a severance procedure that surgically divides their memories between their work and personal lives. This daring experiment in “work-life balance” is called into question as Mark finds himself at the center of an unraveling mystery that will force him to confront the true nature of his work … and of himself. In season two, Mark and his friends learn the dire consequences of trifling with the severance barrier, leading them further down a path of woe.
‘Severance’ Season 3 Is Coming…Very Slowly
Severance released its first season in 2022, but fans had to wait three years for Season 2. Now, it seems they will not be seeing Season 3 in the immediate future. Last month, creator Ben Stiller revealed that he would not be directing the next season, adding that “things take time to come together, and the older you get, the more you realize that you only have so much time.” This seemed to hint that Severance will not be rushing production on its next season, which should really be good news for fans.
However, he later shared on X that despite stepping back from directing duties this time around, he is still very involved in the show, and will be in the future. He said:
“It’s been full time the last 8 months working on season 3 and I’m not going anywhere. We have incredible directors and a team that creates the show. I love directing it and look forward to at some point again for sure. I feel like season 3 is going to be the best yet as we continue to evolve.”
With the series ending Season 2 as one of Apple TV+’s most talked-about shows, and its awards tally rising, there is no doubt that Severance will get the chance to play out its full story as planned. Creators Stiller and Dan Erickson have suggested that they would need four seasons to tell the story they have envisioned for the characters of Lumon Industries, so we can expect to see Severance increasing their Emmy haul in the coming years.
