Jude Law and Jason Bateman are two of Hollywood’s most dynamic leading men, with each talented actor enjoying a decades-long career marked by numerous accolades and hits to their name. In 2025, the duo joined forces to headline the Netflix crime thriller Black Rabbit, an exciting new miniseries from Zach Baylin (King Richard) and Kate Susman that chronicles the tumultuous relationship between two estranged brothers from opposite walks of life.
Black Rabbit consists of eight gripping episodes and is just begging to be binge-watched by fans of Bateman’s other Netflix hit, Ozark. Both crime shows masterfully delve into complicated family dynamics while featuring high-stakes storytelling and countless twists and turns. Bateman’s former on-screen wife, Laura Linney, directs two episodes, while Bateman himself helms the first two, creating a mini Ozark reunion. Let’s take a closer look at the thrilling series Black Rabbit.
‘Black Rabbit’ Marks a Thrilling Reunion for Bateman and Netflix
After his Emmy-winning work in Netflix’s critically-acclaimed crime drama Ozark, Jason Bateman once again teams up with the streaming giant for the riveting new miniseries Black Rabbit, in which he appears alongside Oscar-nominee Jude Law as estranged brothers Vince and Jake Friedkin. Set in New York City against the backdrop of its vibrant nightlife scene, the show centers on the swanky titular restaurant and its charming owner, Jake (Law), as the Manhattan hotspot prepares to become the most exclusive spot in town. Already overwhelmed and financially stretched to his limit, Jake finds his world further complicated with the arrival of his troubled brother Vince.
Vince’s arrival and desire to return to the family business cause Jake’s world to be thrown into turmoil, as past traumas and burgeoning dangers begin to plague both the brothers and the elite restaurant. The crime thriller delves into the tumultuous relationship between Jake and Vince as they are compelled to contend not only with each other but also with the conflicts arising from unforeseen threats. Created by Zach Baylin (King Richard, Gran Turismo) and Kate Susman, Black Rabbit is shaping up to be Netflix’s latest streaming sensation thanks to its stacked cast and crew.
Not only does Black Rabbit mark Bateman’s latest creative collaboration with Netflix, but the miniseries also reunites the actor with his Ozark co-star Laura Linney, who will direct the third and fourth episodes. The two crime shows share intriguing similarities, as they both delve into the complex dynamics of family while exploring the numerous pressures and nuances that accompany interpersonal relationships. As a result of Vince’s shocking arrival, the brothers face lethal consequences and adrenaline-pumping, high-stakes scenarios.
Law and Bateman as Estranged Brothers in ‘Black Rabbit’
Bateman’s character, Vince, is extremely troubled and has a sordid history with gambling and addiction. Wherever he goes, chaos follows, which causes major issues for his straight-laced and hard-working brother, Jake. Their rocky relationship is the focal point of the miniseries and is thrillingly fleshed out throughout its eight juicy episodes. The brothers’ bond is tested as they attempt to protect everything they’ve built while also fighting to avoid self-implosion.
Not only does Black Rabbit set up an exciting reunion between Bateman and Linney, but it also marks the second time Law has joined creative forces with creators Baylin and Susman. They previously worked together on the 2024 crime thriller The Order, in which Law starred alongside Nicholas Hoult. The movie notably competed for the Golden Lion at the Venice International Film Festival and was a massive critical hit. It was during the shooting of the project that they first broached the subject of Black Rabbit to the actor. Law told People in an interview:
“We were in production. It was very clear early on that their relationship was incredibly positive and the work that we were experiencing on The Order was collaborative and like-minded and we were enjoying ourselves, but we had high standards and I think we were all interested in pushing the potential of a story as far as it could go.”
Black Rabbit is already shaping up to be yet another hit for both Bateman and Law. Following its debut, the series currently holds an impressive 75% Rotten Tomatoes score. In comparison, Ozark averaged an 82% score from critics during its four-season run, which bodes well for the show and proves it could be nearly as gripping and entertaining as the fellow Bateman staple. Early reviews are praising the intense performances of the lead stars and their engrossing chemistry on screen as the at-odds brothers, and it certainly seems like Netflix has another hit on its hands. Black Rabbit is now available to stream on Netflix.
