The first reactions to one of the most highly anticipated action sequels of the year (at least, among die-hard genre fans) have now emerged, with the follow-up being hailed as both bigger and bloodier, as well as being described as the “perfect sequel” and “everything a revenge flick should be.” Yes, it does indeed sound like we could have another action thriller classic on our hands.

Following 2022’s Sisu, which itself has a score of 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, Sisu: Road to Revenge has now premiered at Fantastic Fest 2025. Taking to X/Twitter to share their reactions, those in attendance have quickly heaped praise on the action outing, with several saying that the sequel surpasses its already acclaimed predecessor. Said lucky audience member @kirkneverdied

“Sisu: Road to Revenge Is bigger, bloodier and more personal than the original w/ an even better villain from Stephen Lang. The action is more varied with planes, trains, automobiles & tanks, and it finds new opportunities for utter absurdity. A sequel that surpasses the original.”

SISU: ROAD TO REVENGE absolutely rips. An extreme, exponential improvement on its predecessor that feels like a Wile E. Coyote/Roadrunner cartoon set in the Soviet Union. So many clever gore gags and action set-ups, plus a surprising heart. Also- Stephen Lang,” said @JamesPPoole, with @RobertoTylerOr1 adding, “SISU: ROAD TO REVENGE is everything a revenge flick should be: fun, intense, and impossible to look away from. It doesn’t try to be anything more than it is, and in that simplicity, it excels.”

The overwhelmingly promising consensus seems to be that Sisu: Road to Revenge is everything any action movie fan could possibly want from a story of violent vengeance. And all while cementing Jorma Tommila’s mysterious soldier as one of the best action heroes of the modern age. “Sisu: Road to Revenge is the perfect sequel. It takes everything that was great about the first film and cranks it up to insane levels—bloodier, more brutal, and more chaotic than ever,” this reaction from @according2seth reads.

“Jorma Tommila’s Aatami Korpi mows down bad guys one by one, and there’s a stunt so wild the entire theater erupted in cheers. Stephen Lang and Richard Brake are pure evil perfection, and every kill hits harder than the last. Violent, relentless, and utterly unforgettable—this is how you do a sequel.”

Further early reactions to Sisu: Road to Revenge call the action movie “absolute carnage” and advise that fans “Do not sleep on this sequel, it’s a literal blast.” While others offer the tantalizing description of Sisu: Road to Revenge as the “Looney Tunes of action sequels, it is wacky, self-aware, and hysterically violent. The immortal is Roadrunner and the Russians are Wiley Coyote.”

Written and directed by Jalmari Helander once again, Sisu: Road to Revenge stars a returning Jorma Tommila as underrated action icon Aatami Korpi, with Stephen Lang and Richard Brake rounding out the cast. Sisu: Road to Revenge is due to be released in its native Finland on October 22, 2025, and elsewhere on November 21, 2025. In the meantime, you can check out the official synopsis below…

“SISU: ROAD TO REVENGE is a wall-to-wall cinematic action event, a sequel to the original sleeper hit SISU. Returning to the house where his family was brutally murdered during the war, “the man who refuses to die” (Jorma Tommila) dismantles it, loads it on a truck, and is determined to rebuild it somewhere safe in their honor. When the Red Army commander who killed his family (Stephen Lang from Don’t Breathe) comes back hellbent on finishing the job, a relentless, eye-popping cross-country chase ensues — a fight to the death, full of clever, unbelievable action set pieces.”
