Everyone is looking for their next binge-watch, and Netflix has the perfect sci-fi series that can be binged in a single day. The streaming service is responsible for the shift in viewing habits towards binge-watching. In the old days (literally, 10 years ago), audiences had to wait a whole week for a new episode of a TV show. Gasp. But when Netflix introduced its digital streaming platform, the entire industry began changing, as did the way people consume TV. That all sounds like the set-up for a sci-fi series, albeit not a very good one. But, for a sci-fi show you’ll really want to watch — one that has a perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes rating — Netflix has you covered with a hidden gem that can be binge-watched in a day.

The show in question wasn’t originally released on Netflix. Instead, it first touched down on HBO Max. However, after underperforming on the platform, HBO scrapped plans for a second season, and Netflix quickly added the hidden gem to its streaming library. If that didn’t give it away, the show we’re talking about is Scavengers Reign. The entire first season is available to stream on Netflix. Comprised of just 12 episodes, which run for around 24 minutes each, the entire series makes the perfect one-day binge-watch (as this writer has done several times).

Scavengers Reign was created by Joseph Bennett and Charles Huettner and debuted in 2023. The animated sci-fi series followed the surviving crew of the Demeter after the ship crash-landed on a hostile alien planet. Having been flung across the planet in escape pods, the separated survivors must each race back to the Demeter to send out a distress signal if they want any chance of getting home.

Scavengers Reign‘s accolades are well known to fans, as all who watch the show find themselves encapsulated in the alien world. Even if animation isn’t normally your thing, give Scavengers Reign a go; you won’t be disappointed. As previously mentioned, the series boasts a flawless 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences were also enamored with the series, calling it “suspenseful,” “unmissable,” and “unique” in the user reviews, and bestowing it with a tremendous 96% audience rating.

Unfortunately, part of the reason why Scavengers Reign can be binge-watched in a single day is because of its cancellation. Bennett and Heuttner originally planned for multiple seasons, and development on Season 2 had already begun. Unfortunately, bad viewership figures on HBO Max meant that Scavengers Reign‘s time in charge was cut short. Fans were hoping that the show’s popularity on Netflix would kickstart interest in a second season from either HBO Max or Netflix. However, at the time of writing, the show remains a limited series. Unfortunately, as it has now been two years since the show’s cancellation, the odds of a second season ever happening are very slim.
