We now have an update regarding the production and release of the MCU sequel, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, following Tom Holland’s accident. The actor reportedly suffered a concussion after a stunt went wrong and was rushed to hospital. Filming was quickly suspended following the incident, but thankfully, it won’t be suspended for too long.
According to Deadline, Spider-Man: Brand New Day will commence filming in a weeks’ time, giving Holland a break so that he can rest and recover ready to once again web-swing his way around NYC as the Marvel superhero. The outlet states that the Spider-Man sequel will “pause production for a week after Tom Holland suffered a mild concussion on a London set Friday. They can’t film around him. The actor is recuperating, and filming is set to resume September 29.”
News of Holland’s accident also left the question of whether the delay in filming would effect the release date, but the outlet goes on to state that the “weeklong pause” will “not impact the movie’s July 31, 2026 theatrical release date.”
How Badly Hurt Was Tom Holland After the Accident?
Details of what exactly happened when the Spider-Man: Brand New Day stunt went wrong remain pretty scarce, but Deadline offers more details of the aftermath, revealing that Holland “was taken to the hospital where he was examined, but not admitted, after suffering the concussion reportedly during a stunt gone wrong, which occurred on the Pinewood Studios set of the film. No other crew members or cast were injured during the stunt.” Meanwhile, sources at Variety have since added that Tom Holland is now recuperating, with the weeks’ delay in filming happening “out of an abundance of caution.”
Filming for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the fourth solo outing for Tom Holland’s web-slinger, began back in August, with set images and footage from the behind the scenes having since revealed that the MCU outing will give the superhero a new suit, as well as dedicate itself to practical effects as it brings the web-slinging and action sequences to life for the big screen.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, who already has experience with the MCU after helming Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, details of the plot of Spider-Man: Brand New Day are currently being kept under wraps. However, it has been revealed that the follow-up will bring back a whole host of other characters, including Zendaya as Michelle “MJ” Jones-Watson, Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/The Punisher, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk, and Michael Mando as Mac Gargan/Scorpion, while adding the likes of Sadie Sink and Tramell Tillman.
So, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is still scheduled to be released in the United States on July 31, 2026, as part of Phase Six of the MCU. The Avengers sequels Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars will follow on December 18, 2026, and December 17, 2027, respectively.
