There’s nothing more fun than seeing a bunch of mercenaries take down a hoard of zombies, right? What about if they’re Nazi zombies? Now we’re talking! That’s the basic premise behind a 2008 war horror movie that stars the late Ray Stevenson, who made his mark on the MCU and Star Wars franchises thanks to roles in the likes of Thor, Thor: Ragnarok, and Ahsoka. Now, fans can relive all the excitement of his portrayal of a Royal Marine-turned-mercenary, and the best part is that it won’t cost you a dime thanks to Tubi.

Released on March 11, 2008, in the United States, Outpost is an epic blend of war, horror, and sci-fi which all worked together to create a film that was much better than it had any right to be considering its minuscule budget. Directed by Steve Barker, the movie somehow managed to spawn one sequel and a prequel, Outpost: Black Sun and Outpost: Rise of the Spetsnaz, despite receiving mixed reviews from fans and critics.

Also starring the amazing Richard Brake (The Last Stop in Yuma County), Julian Wadham (The English Patient), and Michael Smiley (Luther, Alien: Earth), Outpost was one of those movies that was never going to win any awards, but was a heck of a lot of fun to watch. It’s got a great hook, some excellent practical effects, and a strong cast who elevate it beyond your typical shlock horror experience. Did we mention there are Nazi zombies? Check out the synopsis below:

“A war-torn Eastern European country becomes the backdrop when a ruthless businessman, Hunt (Wadham), hires a group of hardened mercenaries led by D.C. (Stevenson) to escort him to a mysterious underground bunker. The mission seems routine at first, but once inside, they uncover evidence of horrific Nazi experiments during World War II. As strange phenomena escalate, the team realizes they are trapped in a fortress guarded by undead Nazi soldiers, a remnant of those failed experiments. Cut off from the outside world and stalked by these invincible killers, the mercenaries must fight to survive against an enemy that cannot be killed.”

While some would have you believe that Outpost is 90 minutes of your life you’ll never get back, don’t listen to the haters. Stevenson’s movie is definitely worth a Sunday afternoon watch, if for nothing more than its bizarre plot and climactic battle which is akin to the pulp films of the 40s and 50s. As one Rotten Tomatoes user put it:

“Outpost manages to stand out as a terrifying, engaging and riveting horror film because of the use of a simple idea, small cast and good gore effects that are key to creating riveting and truly worthwhile entertainment for the ever demanding horror fan. I’ll go right out and say it, this film isn’t great, but it’s a fun, low budget film that definitely should be seen by genre enthusiasts.”

Fun is the key word there, because Outpost is definitely that. Trust us, you won’t be disappointed in this one if you dare to give it a go. Like we said, it won’t cost you a cent because the epic war horror movie is now streaming for free on Tubi.
