The Miami Vice reboot might be getting some serious star power, as two of Hollywood’s biggest names are reportedly at the top of the list to co-star in the television show reboot. Top Gun: Maverick‘s Joseph Kosinski is set to direct a feature film remake of the hit television series Miami Vice with a script by Nightcrawler’s Dan Gilroy. Miami Vice was previously adapted into a feature film in 2006 by director Michael Mann, who directed the original pilot for the series and served as an executive producer.

NexusPointNews is reporting that Universal Pictures’ Miami Vice reboot is eying a pair of Hollywood’s best action heroes in Top Gun: Maverick‘s Glen Powell and SinnersMichael B. Jordan for the lead roles. Glen Powell is being considered for the part of James “Sonny” Crockett, who was played by Don Johnson in the original television series and Colin Farrell in the 2006 film. Michael B. Jordan is in talks to step into the role of Ricardo “Rico” Tubbs, played by Philip Michael Thomas in the television series and Jamie Foxx in the feature film remake, alongside Farrell. Universal Pictures has not made any official comment.

While Glen Powell’s and Michael B. Jordan’s involvement in Miami Vice at this point is just a rumor, both would be exciting picks. Powell already has a working relationship with Kosinski, having appeared as Hangman in Top Gun: Maverick. Since then, Powell has become a bankable leading man, with starring roles in blockbuster hits like Anyone but You and Twisters. In 2025, Powell stars, co-writes, and executive produces the Hulu series Chad Powers, as well as taking on the lead role in Edgar Wright’s Running Man.

Michael B. Jordan, meanwhile, is coming off the critical and box office hit Sinners, which is already generating Oscar buzz. Thanks to his role as Adonis Creed in the Creed films and Erik Killmonger in the Black Panther films, Jordan has emerged as one of the most in-demand and critically acclaimed stars working. Michael B. Jordan is currently starring and directing a remake of The Thomas Crown Affair, which will open in theaters on Mar. 5, 2027.

With Miami Vice set to open in theaters on Aug. 6, 2027, if Michael B. Jordan signs on for the film, it will be a very busy year for him. Pairing Powell and Jordan together on screen would certainly make Miami Vice an event film worth seeing, particularly in winning over an audience who might not remember the original 1980s television series, from which the rebooted film will draw heavily. With a creative team that includes the director of Top Gun: Maverick, the writer of Nightcrawler, and stars from Twisters and Sinners, Miami Vice could quickly become one of the most anticipated films of summer 2027.
