One of the most celebrated streaming services is getting a major branding shift, it has been announced. Apple TV+ has quietly become a haven for critically acclaimed film and television content, from comedy hits like Ted Lasso, to sci-fi epics like Foundation. Now, it seems like Apple has made the change subscribers have been waiting for since the streamer’s debut, although it doesn’t allow for any less confusion.
In the official press release for the F1 The Movie streaming release date, Apple revealed that Apple TV+ is now simply called Apple TV, forgoing the plus sign for what the company calls a “vibrant new identity.” It’s a change that many have probably waited for, as the new name has been used by Apple to describe their other, similar app. However, it seems that “TV” and “Apple TV” will continue to be separate apps, so that will be interesting to see unfold in light of the sudden announcement. It’s unclear what else will be introduced in this new vision for the streamer, but it seems subscribers can expect more changes to come soon enough. Notably, there was a recent price hike on the service, which still does not have an ad-supported tier.
The Brad Pitt-led racing action film F1, which sped past its competition at the box office earlier this year, is set to stream on Apple TV on December 12. The long wait has allowed the Apple Original Film, co-distributed by Warner Bros., to have a healthy and lengthy theatrical run. Its debut on Apple TV comes after the streamer plans to premiere the highly anticipated sci-fi series from Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan, Pluribus, the second season of Kristen Wiig comedy Palm Royale, and Mark Wahlberg’s action comedy sequel The Family Plan 2, among a few.
