Amazon’s upcoming action sequel, currently titled Road House 2, has just added several major names that are sure to further increase the movie’s action movie pedigree. The follow-up will see Academy Award nominee Jake Gyllenhaal return as former pro fighter turned “cooler” Elwood Dalton, with Nobody director Ilya Naishuller taking the helm from the first movie’s Doug Liman (who is reportedly pursuing his own somewhat confusing sequel).
It has now been revealed via Deadline that Road House 2 will add one of the most underrated martial arts actors in the game, Iko Uwais, to the fray. Best-known for the action masterpieces The Raid and its sequel The Raid 2, Uwais continues to be one of the most exciting action stars of the modern era, and has somehow squeezed Road House 2 into his already pretty hectic schedule.
But that’s not all! The Raid star is joined by Andrew “King Bach” Bachelor (Violent Night 2), and Hidetoshi Nishijima (Drive My Car). These latest casting additions join a parade of real-life professional fighters, including Rico Verhoeven, Michael Chandler, Michael “Venom” Page, Dustin Poirier, Stephen Thompson, and Tyron Woodley, with Jay Hieron reprising his role as Jax “Jetway” Harris. All of which suggests that Road House 2 will explode into an all-put brawl.
‘Road House 2’ Is Aiming for “Greater Scope, Scale, and Ambition”
While character and plot details remain under wraps, the report reveals that Road House 2 will be far more epic than the first outing, with production aiming for “greater scope, scale, and ambition, with filming taking place across the U.K., Malta, and Savannah, Georgia.”
What we do know for sure about Road House 2 is that the action sequel will find Jake Gyllenhaal at the center of a fist-throwing crime thriller once again, with Ilya Naishuller directing the action movie sequel from a script by Will Beall. The rest of the cast includes Leila George, Aldis Hodge, and Dave Bautista. While unconfirmed, the MCU star is expected to play the main villain of the piece as the franchise likely distances itself from the first movie’s bad guy, played by Connor McGregor, after the MMA fighter was found guilty of sexual assault last year.
Released last year and directed by Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity, Edge of Tomorrow) from a screenplay written by Anthony Bagarozzi (The Nice Guys) and Charles Mondry (Doc Savage), the first Road House reboots the Patrick Swayze-led 80s classic and stars Jake Gyllenhaal as ex-UFC fighter Elwood Dalton, who takes a job as a bouncer at a Florida Keys roadhouse…only to discover that this paradise is not all it seems
Despite mixed reviews from both critics and audiences alike, the action remake was a huge hit for Amazon and Prime Video when it landed on the streamer back in March last year. The remake attracted a record-breaking 50 million worldwide viewers over its first two weekends which, according to the studio, made Road House the “most-watched produced film debut ever on a worldwide basis” at the time. With this cast, Road House 2 is on track to beat its predecessor into submission.
