The terrifying and fascinating world of Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding will be expanded upon in an animated series — and it’s found a surprising streaming home. The famed video game designer known for Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hills confirmed that Death Stranding Isolations (which is the current working title) will officially premiere on Disney+ in 2027 during a showcase that took place at the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort this month.

Based on the hit 2019 game, Death Stranding Isolations is expected to tell a completely separate story as it follows a new group of characters, including an old man “trying to realize salvation,” a woman warrior “who tries to kickstart a world of constant fighting,” a boy with a “grudge” and a girl who “embraces loneliness.”

Somewhere in North America, just as Sam Bridges walks through the continent in order to save America, the ‘someones’ are also trying to deal with their isolation in their own way … On the precipice of the end of humanity and the world, their fates and hopes converge, as another story of Death Stranding begins.

Kojima will serve as the executive producer on the series, with Takayuki Sano (Attack on Titan, Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods) taking on the role of director. An official cast is yet to be announced.
