Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde may have started out as an unexpected pair, but by the end of Disney’s Zootopia, they proved themselves to be a powerful team as they foiled Mayor Bellwether’s evil plot to destroy the shaky peace between predators and prey in the city. Having earned their happy ending, Judy was rightfully reinstated as an officer to the Zootopia Police Department and Nick was able to graduate from the academy and officially become her partner — but despite their recent successes, everything won’t be all sunshine and roses between the two pals in Zootopia 2.

While speaking with MovieWeb, Ginnifer Goodwin exclusively reveals that Judy (Goodwin) and Nick (Jason Bateman) won’t exactly be on the same page coming into the sequel as the bunny struggles with confidence issues and her need to be in control.

“They’re just on her page,” the Once Upon a Time actress, 47, clarifies. “She is not always, even given those ears, the greatest listener. And I don’t fault her for what she’s going through at the top of the film.”

Goodwin explains that the sequel takes place only one week after Judy and Nick save the city from Mayor Bellwether (Jenny Slate), but instead of feeling positive and motivated by their win, the situation has “actually made her question her self-worth more.”

“That external validation has meant that now she feels like she has to prove that they deserve to have saved the city, that they deserve this partnership, and that it is based on talent and ability. She’s become very controlling and micromanaging, and she’s not listening, which doesn’t make for a very good partnership.”

‘Loki’ Star Snags Key Role in ‘Zootopia 2’

A new character is slithering in to Zootopia 2 — and Marvel fans might recognize him! Loki alum Ke Huy Quan — who played Ouroboros (also known as O.B.) in the second season of the hit Disney+ show — is set to helm the role of Gary De’Snake, a mysterious reptile who “turns the mammal metropolis of Zootopia upside down,” according to the film’s synopsis.

During a recent sit-down with Entertainment Weekly, Quan, 54, revealed that Judy and Nick’s adventure kicks off when they “discover a skin from Gary, and they need to go on this journey to find out why, for a hundred years, no reptile has ever stepped foot in Zootopia.”

“And there is a mystery that they need to uncover. And that’s where Gary comes in; he shows up and freaks everybody out because he’s a venomous pit viper. Everybody’s afraid of him.”

Despite what others might immediately think of him, the Everything Everywhere All at Once actor gushed that Gary is actually “friendly,” “kind of goofy” and has a “big heart.”

“He’s your eternal optimist,” he added. “And he shows up because he wants to tell everybody, and try to solve a case so that his family can come back to Zootopia.”

Zootopia 2 hits theaters on Nov. 26.
