Right on time for the holidays, DC has released a new Superman animated short film based on the breakout character Krypto.
Shortly before the release of Superman, James Gunn confirmed that a series of non-canon animated shorts under the banner Krpyto Saves the Day! would be produced between 2025 and 2026. The first episode, “School Buss Scuffle!,” was released on Aug. 15, 2025, with the second, “Halloween Havoc,” arriving on Oct. 1.
On Nov. 28, one day after Thanksgiving and just in time for Black Friday, the DC Kids YouTube channel released the third Krypto Saves the Day! short. Running five minutes and 22 seconds, “Package Pandemonium” finds the titular canine superhero following a mail carrier delivering a special package. Along the way, Krypto makes a slight mess of Metropolis’s holiday festivities. Watch the short below.
‘Krypto Saves the Day!’ Is Separate from the DCU
Despite featuring Krytpo and having the DC Studios logo, the Krypto Saves the Day! shorts don’t really tie in to anything else, so viewers don’t need to worry about understanding the wider implications of the DC Universe. These short films are brief animated segments that are designed to introduce younger fans to the world of DC Comics, using a marketable character they likely recognize from Superman. The series has been confirmed for four episodes, with the final one expected to air in 2026.
Krypto Saves the Day! has been the perfect transition between Krypto’s two live-action appearances in the DCU. He made his debut in Superman, which opened on July 11, 2025. He will next be seen in Supergirl, the second DCU film, which opens in theaters on Jun. 26, 2026. While nothing is confirmed yet Krypto is expected to play a role in the Superman follow-up Man of Tomorrow, which will open in theaters on Jul. 9, 2027.
As 2025 comes to a close, the Krytpo Saves the Day! short is one of the last major DC titles of the year. Rumors have circulated that a Supergirl trailer will debut in December before screenings of Avatar: Fire and Ash. With Lanterns now delayed until 2026, Supergirl is the next DCU-related title, though fans are hoping to maybe get some casting news regarding Man of Tomorrow‘s main villain, Brainiac, before the holidays. Until then, families can at least enjoy Krypto’s wacky adventures.
