Marvel Cinematic Universe star Scarlett Johansson might be making the move to the DC Universe. The actress is best known for her role as Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow in the MCU, starting with Iron Man 2 and culminating in her 2021 solo film, Black Widow. She now looks to be leaping over to Marvel’s distinguished competition, joining the highly anticipated sequel to Matt Reeves’ The Batman.

Deadline is reporting that Johansson is rumored to be in talks to join the cast of The Batman – Part II, just hours after Nexus Point News broke the story. As both outlets are citing “sources” as providing the news, there have been no details about who Johansson is being eyed to play, but there have been several suggestions. The Batman – Part II is set for release on Oct. 1, 2027, and will be directed by Matt Reeves with Robert Pattinson reprising his role as Batman. At the same time as rumors of Johansson’s potential casting broke, Variety reported that Zoë Kravitz, who played Catwoman in the first movie, may not be returning for the sequel.

Who Could Scarlett Johansson Play in ‘The Batman – Part II ‘?

Universal

With details on The Batman – Part II under wraps, it is difficult to guess who exactly Johansson could play in the highly anticipated sequel. While there is a chance that she could play an original character, given Johansson’s status, it is likely she is being eyed for an iconic comic role, potentially a new love interest for Bruce Wayne, if Kravitz’s Catwoman does not return.

Johansson could also be playing a potential villain, like Pamela Isley / Poison Ivy, yet the character’s meta-human powers might seem like a stretch for the grounded, realistic world Reeves has crafted. There is also Nora Fries, the wife of Batman villain Mr. Freeze, who in some comics becomes a villain herself, either an ice-themed Mrs. Freeze or a fire-imbued Lazara. There is, of course, Andrea Beamont / The Phantasm, a character who originated in the acclaimed animated film Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, who can fill the role of both love interest and antagonist for Batman.

If Johansson signs on for The Batman – Part II, it will be the latest in a string of his profile films. She recently signed on for Mike Flanagan’s The Exorcist reboot. There is also the inevitable sequel to Jurassic World: Rebirth that Johansson is expected to return for. Johansson is also rumored to be in talks for the role of Mother Gothel in a live-action remake of Disney’s Tangled. With The Exorcist, Jurassic World: Rebirth, and potentially Tangled and The Batman – Part II, Johansson is doing just fine without the MCU.
