The future of the TV show Alien: Earth remains uncertain, as it still hasn’t been renewed for a second season, and there seems to be nothing but silence on that front. Executives are likely still crunching numbers in order to determine if Noah Hawley’s take on the Alien franchise is worth continuing, and fans will have to keep waiting for an official renewal announcement. In the meantime, star Sydney Chandler, the all-mighty Wendy in the show, has spoken about the future of the show. Although she remains in good contact with the showrunner, she admits that she hasn’t learned anything about Wendy’s future.

Chandler was at the New York Comic Con, where she spoke about the recently released TV series. Speaking to Screen Rant, Chandler didn’t offer any false hope about a possible second season. Instead, she explained her relationship with Hawley, and how she tries to pick his brain for information. So far, she hasn’t been able to get anything from him, and has “no idea” about the future of Wendy, the rest of the “Lost Boys,” or the creatures still wandering around on Earth.

“I keep picking his brain and he won’t tell me where we’re going to go next. I feel like that piece is Wendy saying checkmate to Boy K. You’ve entered her world now. It was such a joy to play someone who is so much cooler than you. So, to step in those shoes, it was really fun. That was a really powerful moment for her, but I have no idea where she goes now. For her, everything’s great. Everything’s going fantastic. For everyone else, I don’t know.”

David W. Zucker, one of the producers backing the show, was also present at New York Comic Con, where he spoke to Screen Rant about the show’s future. Though he did not confirm if the show will be renewed for Season 2, he remains optimistic that news about a follow-up will arrive in the next month:

“Well, I’m there to work in support. So wherever he is going, I’m sort of carrying the trails. But there is definitely a lot of creative preparation going on, and our hope and expectation is that we will hear some tangible news in the next month or so.”

‘Alien: Earth’ Was a Very Divisive Entry in the ‘Alien’ Franchise

From the very first episode, fans were divided about Alien: Earth. Some complained about unlikable characters, some of the changes to the franchise rules, and the show’s pace. Others praised Hawley’s bold decision to incorporate these changes, and celebrated how the series connects to the universe created by Ridley Scott in 1979. The reception by critics and audiences was quite different, with critics expressing their approval on Rotten Tomatoes and giving the series a score of 94%. The audience score, on the other hand, remains at 66%.

Season 1 of Alien: Earth consists of eight episodes, which are now available to stream on Hulu. The series follows a group of humans and “hybrids” who come in contact with alien creatures after a spaceship crashes on Earth. The series is set in the year 2120, two years before the events of 1979’s Alien.
