EXCLUSIVE: Shaun Evans (Until I Kill You, Endeavour) and Álvaro Morte (Money Heist, Immaculate) have joined BBC crime drama This City is Ours, as cameras roll on Season 2.

They will join the returning James Nelson-Joyce as Michael Kavanagh, Hannah Onslow as his partner Diana Williams, Jack McMullen, Mike Noble as Banksey, Julie Graham and Saoirse-Monica Jackson in the Stephen Butchard series, whose first season has been the BBC’s biggest new drama of 2025 to date with an average of 5.8 million viewers.

Spoilers: Evans will play recently released former gangster Ozzie Thomas and Morte is Felipe Guzman, a member of the Colombian cartel and younger brother of Ricardo, who was murdered at the end of Season 1.

Season 2 picks up immediately after. Per the synopsis: “Michael and Diana have barely arrived in Spain when they are dragged back into the fold to answer questions around Ricardo’s death. Back in Liverpool, tensions continue to bubble amongst the remaining members of the gang. Meanwhile, an old school gangster from Ronnie’s era, recently out of prison, wants compensation from the firm.”

Filming has begun in and around Liverpool, England, with additional shooting taking place in Spain.

Sony-owned Left Bank Pictures produces This City is Ours for BBC iPlayer and BBC One. It was commissioned for the BBC by Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama. Butchard, the creator, serves as lead writer, with Robbie O’Neill writing a further episode.

Executive producers are Andy Harries, Rebecca Hodgson and Sian McWilliams for Left Bank, Butchard, Saul Dibb, and Jo McClellan for the BBC. The directors are Saul Dibb, returning as lead director from Season 1, and Chris Baugh, the series producer is Simon Maloney, and the block two producer is Nathan Juckes, both returning. Sony Pictures Television will distribute the series internationally.
