One of the most intense war movies based on a true story is about to stream for free. Tubi already has a lot of great war movies to offer users for free, but one of the best in recent years, which just so happens to be closely based on a true story, will join the streamer next month. Released in 2014, the film tells the story of a legendary American soldier who broke a military record during his four tours in Iraq. As well as being a true story, the film was made by a legendary director with a phenomenal cast who all turned in Oscar-worthy performances. If you haven’t guessed by now, we’re talking about American Sniper.
Clint Eastwood’s American Sniper is set to join Tubi, the completely free streaming platform, on October 1. The film stars Bradley Cooper as Chris Kyle, a Navy SEAL who holds the record for the most confirmed kills. The film follows Kyle as he joins the military, to how he became an armed forces legend, as well as how the Iraq War affected his home life once his tours were done. Alongside Cooper, the film also starred Sienna Miller as Taya, Chris Kyle’s wife and mother of his child. The movie is pretty faithfully adapted from Chris Kyle’s autobiography, American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in US Military History. The official synopsis reads:
“U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle (Bradley Cooper) takes his sole mission — protect his comrades — to heart and becomes one of the most lethal snipers in American history. His pinpoint accuracy not only saves countless lives but also makes him a prime target of insurgents. Despite grave danger and his struggle to be a good husband and father to his family back in the States, Kyle serves four tours of duty in Iraq. However, when he finally returns home, he finds that he cannot leave the war behind.”
American Sniper was a big hit for Clint Eastwood. The film grossed just shy of $550 million at the box office, against an estimated budget of $59 million. Critics mostly liked the film, as it holds a 71% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. But the mixed reviews didn’t stop the film from being nominated for multiple Oscars in 2015, including Best Picture, and Best Actor for Bradley Cooper. Audiences certainly enjoyed the film more, as it holds an 84% audience rating.
‘American Sniper’ Is Tense and Action-Packed
Much of American Sniper focuses on Chris Kyle’s psyche, as he goes from a green Navy SEAL to one of the most decorated soldiers from the Iraq War. In the film, Kyle took the war home with him, with Bradley Cooper excellently depicting the figure’s PTSD in between deployments.
But, when American Sniper dials up the action, it dials it to 11. The action scenes are tense, harrowing, and explosive. These include Chris Kyle taking out enemy snipers from over a mile away, and breaching doors with US Marines.
