Avengers: Doomsday is already one of the most anticipated superhero films in recent memory, but one of its (many) stars has increased the hype for longtime fans of superhero movies.

During an interview with ScreenRant, Simu Liu talked about how Avengers: Doomsday feels like a “love letter” to the genre, featuring all the actors that made the MCU one of the most popular franchises of all time.

“I mean, there are just so many actors in it, and getting to work with those people as peers is really incredible because I grew up watching so many of them. It feels, in a lot of ways, like a love letter to the entire genre of superhero movies. And I think there’s something really fun about that.”

For Liu, Doomsday is the ultimate gift for those who have been diehard fans of the source material for years (even before the MCU). The crossover event is for “all the misfits and the weirdos and the underdogs that grew up reading comic books and feeling like there was hope for them somehow – that it didn’t matter if they didn’t fit in– I think there’s just always a special place in my heart for that entire genre.”

More to come.
