Christopher Nolan has revealed his favorite performance of the year so far, and his answer might surprise some. Dwayne Johnson, who has been receiving praise for his transformation in the sports biopic The Smashing Machine, just got a seal of approval from one of the most celebrated filmmakers of his generation.
During an episode of the Director’s Cut podcast, Nolan spoke with Benny Safdie, who directed Johnson in his MMA biopic The Smashing Machine earlier this year and appeared in Oppenheimer. Nolan had major praise for Johnson in his role as Mark Kerr, saying, “I think it’s an incredible performance. I don’t think you’ll see a better performance this year or most other years.”
