Donald Glover has spoken about the health issues that caused him to abandon his 2024 The New World Tour back in September. The former Childish Gambino star, who is expected to still expected to be returning to screens as Lando Clarisian in a new Star Wars project, performed on the Camp Flog Gnaw stage this weekend with and explained how he suffered a stroke and doctors found a hole in his heart last year.
“I was doing this world tour. I was having lots of fun, really loving seeing you guys out there,” he told the crowd at the Amazon Music-streamed live event. “And I had a really bad pain in my head in Louisiana, and I did the show anyway. I couldn’t really see well, so when we went to Houston, I went to the hospital and the doctor was like, ‘You had a stroke.’
“And The first thing I thought was like, ‘Oh, here I am still copying Jamie Foxx.’ That’s really like the second thing. The first thing was like, ‘I’m letting everybody down.’ I know it’s not true.”
Glover canceled several gigs, and a month later canceled the remaining dates of his tour.
“I’d broken my foot. … and they found a hole in my heart. So, I had this surgery, and then I had to have another surgery. They say everybody has two lives, and the second life starts when you realize you have one. You got one life, guys. And I’ve gotta be honest, the life I’ve lived with you guys has been such a blessing. I love seeing and performing for you guys.”
Donald Glover Is Believed to Be Returning to His Beloved ‘Star Wars’ Role
Glover’s medical problems are now behind him, which means several projects – both musical and in his acting career – can now move forward. The star is bringing back his character Troy Barnes for a Community movie, but it is his potential Lando project that has become some kind of mythical Holy Grail for many Star Wars fans.
Recent reports suggest that years after it seemed to have died at Lucasfilm, the Lando movie/series has been revived. Whether it actually makes it into production, however, is another matter, as Star Wars projects seem to come and go like they are on a merry-go-round – even those that have been greenlit.
The Lando project was initially envisioned as a TV spinoff from the unfairly panned Solo: A Star Wars Story. With the Disney+ series route now being less favorable as the franchise looks to bring back the good old days of $1 billion box office success. For this reason, the last major update on the project hinted that it may have pivoted to a movie instead. Glover made it clear in previous interviews that all he really wanted to do was make a project that is “fun.” As a movie fans actually seemed to be quite on board with, it is yet to be seen if Glover will take flight in the franchise again during its new era of movies.
