Comics creator Rob Liefeld has had a bit of a falling out with Marvel, due in large part to disputes about how Deadpool has been treated by Marvel Studios, and he’s been happy to call out the Marvel Cinematic Universe as he sees fit. His complaints aren’t going unnoticed, though, as Liefeld took Twitter to mock the visual effects of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, only for Galactus actor Ralph Ineson to weigh in on Liefeld’s remarks. Ineson’s reaction wasn’t particularly aggressive, merely implying that the MCU lives “rent free” in Liefeld’s head. At the time of publishing, Liefeld hasn’t reacted to Ineson’s remarks.

While Liefeld might not have directly responded to Ineson, his next post on Twitter was another dig at Marvel, expressing, “MCU was the single biggest fail of 2025. [Kevin] Feige is so washed. Doomsical Chairs can’t get here fast enough!”
What Happened Between Marvel and Rob Liefeld?
In addition to Deadpool, Liefeld developed Marvel Comics characters like Cable, Domino, and Shatterstar, with the creator ultimately going on to create Image Comics. One iteration of Deadpool appeared in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but it was the 2016 Deadpool that really thrust the character into the spotlight and earned him newfound notoriety. At the time, 20th Century Fox owned the rights to Deadpool and the X-Men, preventing him from colliding with the MCU, but all that changed when The Walt Disney Company purchased Fox, leading to 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine.
Due to the popularity of Deadpool, Liefeld confirmed on his Robservations podcast that he reached out to Marvel Studios to request a more significant credit in Deadpool & Wolverine to signify his work with the character. The next day, he took to Twitter to claim that his reps were “screamed at” by Disney, and he ultimately earned the standard “created by” acknowledgment in the film’s end credits that other creators have received. Liefeld would be invited to the film’s world premiere, yet he wasn’t invited to attend the film’s afterparty, which he believes is due to his credit request. Liefeld also claimed that he took photos at the premiere with creatives involved with Deadpool & Wolverine though was told that these photos were ultimately deleted.
Earlier this year, Liefeld confirmed he would no longer be working with Marvel, with his final comic issue being this past February’s Deadpool Team-Up #5.
What’s Next for Deadpool in the MCU?
After the release of Deadpool 2 in 2018, star Ryan Reynolds regularly claimed that he couldn’t see another solo Deadpool movie happening and that a follow-up would likely be an X-Force project. Instead, with Disney purchasing the rights to Deadpool and the X-Men, this allowed these characters to officially be brought into the MCU, which included bringing Hugh Jackman out of retirement as Wolverine.
Even with the tremendous financial success of Deadpool & Wolverine, Marvel Studios has largely been focusing on Avengers: Doomsday, which currently has a December 2026 release date. Reynolds is expected to appear in Doomsday as Deadpool, though it’s unclear in what capacity, or if he’ll appear in Avengers: Secret Wars.
