New reports have suggested that Henry Cavill has sustained an injury while practicing fight scenes for his upcoming Highlander reboot. According to Deadline, the injury could mean that filming cannot start until January 2026, which could then impact the movie’s expected release date.
Currently, there have been no details of exactly what injury Cavill has sustained, but it seems like something that is relatively serious if Amazon MGM is looking to postpone filming on the Chad Stahelski-directed remake by a few months. Many will remember Harrison Ford having similar issues when he hurt his arm while practicing fight scenes for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, which saw the actor out of action for a similar length of time.
While many have predicted that Highlander will be released in 2027, Amazon MGM has not yet dated the movie, so they have plenty of scope to shift back whatever release date they had in mind without making it seem like a big thing. For fans though, this kind of mishap is something that will spark plenty of online speculation about how much it may impact the film.
‘Highlander’ Is One of Several Big Projects on Cavill’s Slate
Henry Cavill fans are still not quite over the fact that the actor will not be playing Superman again, but leaving behind the Man of Steel has opened up plenty of time for him to dip into some other big projects. Whether the delays to Highlander’s planned filming start will impact any of Cavill’s other projects is yet to be seen, but time does not tend to hang around in Hollywood.
Along with Highlander, Cavill is reuniting with his The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare director, Guy Ritchie, on a new thriller, In the Grey, which is set to be released later this year. Presumedly, that release will not be impacted by Cavill’s new set-back. However, he is set to star in the live-action remake of another 80s property, Voltron. That movie will join the actor’s Warhammer 40K project that he is working on for Prime Video. Both of these could be huge franchise starters for Cavill, and while Voltron completed filming back in May, there is a chance that it could require reshoots or other pick-ups that Cavill may not be able to do in the immediate future. Warhammer 40K is very much in its early stages, so it will just have to wait patiently in line.
