Action movie icon Jason Statham will return to protect the hive in the sequel to one of his best movies, The Beekeeper 2, and the hype for the action thriller couldn’t be much higher. The sequel, which has since been picked up by Amazon MGM Studios, has now wrapped filming, with director Timo Tjahjanto taking to X/Twitter to share a look behind the scenes, as well as make a major promise.

Timo Tjahjanto, who takes over from The Beekeeper director David Ayer and is best-known for such underrated action movie masterpieces as The Night Comes for Us and The Shadow Strays, took to X to reveal that The Beekeeper 2 has now wrapped. The director shared several behind the scenes images from set, including the clapper board alongside a jar of honey (a favorite of Statham’s assassin-turned- apiarist Adam Clay), a hat reading “Protect the Hive,” and finally, and rather ominously, a box containing two severed fingers.

Released last year, The Beekeeper follows one man’s brutal campaign for vengeance, which takes on national stakes after he is revealed to be a former operative of a powerful and clandestine organization known as “Beekeepers.” The action thriller saw huge success for The Stath, going on to gross $152.7 million at the worldwide box office and scoring 71% from critics alongside a hugely impressive 92% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.

‘The Beekeeper 2’ Director Promises Even More Violence

Alongside the announcement that The Beekeeper 2 has now wrapped filming, meaning it won’t be long before we get our first official look at Jason Statham’s return, Timo Tjahjanto revealed something that is sure to have action fans buzzing for the sequel. Responding to a fan on social media who said, “I hope you made it more violent,” the filmmaker simply replied, “I Did.” Based on the brutal and bloody nature of his previous action efforts, this is hugely exciting news for those awaiting The Stath’s next foray into the world of The Beekeepers.

While plot details for The Beekeeper 2 remain under wraps, the promise of more violence tracks with what Tjahjanto has previously revealed about the movie. The director has explained how The Beekeeper 2 will allow him to live his dream of bringing a certain Marvel vigilante to life, with his intention to transform Statham’s Adam Clay into his own version of The Punisher

“I’m definitely drawn to the Beekeeper series just because when I watched it, I always felt that, “Wow, this is essentially Statham playing one of my favorite characters in the Marvel universe, which is The Punisher. If I can’t make The Punisher film, if the Gods of film aren’t allowing me to do a Punisher film yet, then I’ll turn Adam Clay into my own version of The Punisher. Which is great! I think Statham has that quality in him. He has that very stoic Frank Castle-esque quality to him. And I love that Adam Clay is definitely a guy who is quite colorful in his choice of violence. He gets really, really creative with his violence.”
