British acting legend and entertainment icon Dame Julie Andrews has captivated audiences with her extraordinary talent for generations. Over the years, she has received various accolades, in addition to multiple lifetime achievement awards and special honors. However, the 89-year-old actress was nominated for Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance at the Creative Arts Emmys in 2021, 2022, and 2023, but she didn’t emerge victorious until the 2025 ceremony. This year, she earned yet another nomination and finally took home the trophy.

Andrews secured the award for Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance at the 76th Creative Arts Emmy Awards for her role in Netflix’s Regency romance series Bridgerton at this year’s ceremony, which took place on Sept. 6. Her character on the show is Lady Whistledown, the elusive writer of a gossip sheet read by every member of the ton. She has penned some memorably savage newsletters during her time on the series, and even though Andrews has never appeared on-screen, she is arguably one of the show’s most essential players.

The other nominees in the voice-over category this year included Hank Azaria for The Simpsons, Maya Rudolph for Big Mouth, Alan Tudyk for Andor, Jeffrey Wright for What If…?, and Steven Yeun for Invincible. Andrews faced some strong competition, appearing alongside veteran voice actors, as well as Star Wars and MCU stars, but her performance in the Season 3 finale of Bridgerton ultimately secured her a well-deserved win. Emmys presenter Craig Robinson accepted the award on behalf of Andrews, who was not in attendance on the night.

Andrews has played the unseen narrator Lady Whistledown in Bridgerton for five years, having provided the voice-over for the character from the show’s first season to its third season and is confirmed to return for the fourth season next year. However, she is yet to meet any of her co-stars in real-life. During an appearance on the Today show in 2022, the actress admitted that she hadn’t worked in close contact with the show’s star-studded ensemble, and instead watched them on television, just like a member of the audience. She explained:

“You know I’ve never met the company in person. Of course, I see them on the show sometimes. But I do all my recording far, far away from them.”

More to come…
