Leonardo DiCaprio has been trending since early reviews of his latest film, Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another, started pouring in all on Sept. 9. Generating strong buzz through the rapturous response to early screenings, the movie reportedly features the actor in one of his most singular and visceral performances. He isn’t resting on his laurels, however; in fact, DiCaprio has already shared what he wants to do next.
DiCaprio showed up at a recent red carpet event for One Battle After Another, where he spoke to ET Online. While discussing his new YouTube channel and laughing at the idea of going on TikTok, he said it was a dream to finally work with Anderson after so many years. When asked about his future, DiCaprio quickly made it clear that there’s nothing officially on his plate — but if he had to choose, he’d pick working with the legendary Martin Scorsese once again:
“To me, always working with Marty again is the ultimate gift. He is our national treasure, and the world’s greatest director. So, if I get another opportunity to do that again, that would be a dream come true.”
DiCaprio has made a total of six films with Scorsese: Gangs of New York (2002), The Aviator (2004), The Departed (2006), Shutter Island (2010), The Wolf of Wall Street (2013), and Killers of the Flower Moon (2023). Since their first collaboration, Scorsese has claimed DiCaprio is one of the best actors he has worked with.
Curiously, while he’s been nominated twice at the Oscars for his performances in Scorsese’s films, DiCaprio won the coveted award for his work in The Revenant, by Alejandro González Iñárritu. He’s been nominated a total of seven times — six of them for acting, and one as a producer for his work on The Wolf of Wall Street.
Is Another Oscar on the Horizon for Leonardo DiCaprio?
DiCaprio could be in the running for another nomination at the Academy Awards next year. One Battle After Another is already generating Oscar buzz, and early reviews argue it’s one of the best films in recent years. In addition to uniting DiCaprio working with Magnolia and There Will Be Blood director Paul Thomas Anderson for the first time, the picture features Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, and Alana Haim, among others. When talking about Anderson, DiCaprio also expressed his admiration, admitting he’s wanted to work with him for 20 years:
“He’s one of the seminal filmmakers of our time. He’s a writer/director that somehow comes up with these unbelievable stories that are so complex. I don’t know how he does it time and time again, but he’s a visionary. For me, as an actor, I want to work with those types of people. People that make those types of memorable films that are generational. I hope this is one of them.”
