M3GAN 2.0 is coming to Peacock — and just in time for Halloween.
The sequel’s poor performance at the box office was one of the biggest shocks of the summer movie season, particularly considering how big a breakout hit the first film was back in January 2023. M3GAN 2.0 had a massive marketing campaign that sought to build off the viral memes that organically built up among fans of its predecessor, but they failed to show up for the action-oriented sequel.
According to Deadline, M3GAN 2.0 — and the film’s unrated director’s cut — will be available to stream on Peacock starting Sept. 26, 2025. Amie Donald returned as M3GAN, voiced by Jenna Davis, with Alison Williams and Violet McGraw also reprising their roles from the first film. Ahsoka‘s Ivanna Sakhno joined the cast as the film’s new cyborg villain, AMELIA. Gerard Johnstone returned to direct the sequel and co-wrote the screenplay alongside M3GAN co-writer Akela Cooper.
‘M3GAN 2.0’ Might Perform Better During the Halloween Season
M3GAN 2.0 modeled itself after Terminator: Judgment Day, another sequel that shifted the emphasis from horror to action and saw its evil robotic villain put in the position of a hero. M3GAN 2.0 even attempted a similar release window, opening ahead of the Fourth of July on June 27, similar to the way Terminator 2: Judgment Day opened on July 3, 1991. Producer Jason Blum compared M3GAN to Superman as a character that could go into any genre, but fans definitely seemed to enjoy her more as a horror villain than a potential action hero.
M3GAN 2.0 opened in fifth place at the box office with $10.1 million, roughly half of the gross estimated by the studio and industry experts. Its final domestic gross was $24 million, which was less than the $30.4 million M3GAN opened to. With a worldwide total of $34 million, M3GAN 2.0 was one of the biggest flops of the 2025 summer box office, and another loss for Universal Pictures and Blumhouse following a string of disappointments that included Wolf Man, The Woman in the Yard, and Drop. This stands in sharp contrast to the Warner Bros. horror slate, which has had multiple hits, including Sinners, Final Destination: Bloodlines, Weapons, and The Conjuring: Last Rites.
Universal’s decision to release M3GAN 2.0 and its director’s cut on Peacock at the end of September aligns perfectly with the Halloween season. Even if audiences skipped M3GAN 2.0 in theaters, they likely associate the character with horror, and might be willing to watch the movie as part of their subscription. It also might help build excitement for the spin-off film SOULM8TE, which is scheduled to arrive in January 2026 — similar to the release window of the first M3GAN.
