David Harbour is set to reprise his role as Red Guardian in the next Avengers movie, Avengers: Doomsday, and per his latest comments, it’s safe to assume that the upcoming MCU sequel will be bigger than anything we’ve seen or imagined. Everyone involved in the project has teased a massive return to the superhero franchise, but according to Harbour, the “special sauce” brought by the Russo brothers will result in something “incredible.” Consider us more hyped than before.
The Thunderbolts* star appeared at the Rose City Comic Con, where he spoke to Screen Rant about life behind the scenes of Avengers: Doomsday. While being careful not to reveal any important plot details, Harbour promised a larger-than-life film that blends genres without skimping on the all-important action and adventure. He also attributes much of the “epicness” to the return of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame directors Anthony and Joseph Russo:
“I was not even convinced when we started, and this movie’s going to be really good. They have a special sauce. I don’t even really understand, but they [the Russos] just know how to do these things. And I think that as evidenced in Civil War, as evidenced in Infinity War, there’s something about the layers in which they put the comedy and the drama and the surprises and the scale and the epicness and all that stuff. It’s incredible.
“I will say I’ve never been on a set like this in my life. I’ve never seen anything like this. You saw those chairs. So it’s like, every one of those guys and girls has a trailer. It’s just insane to look around the room and be like, ‘Oh my god, I’m in the movie. There’s what’s-his-face doing that speech.’ It’s just enormous.”
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 18, 2026. The fifth installment in the Avengers franchise will feature the return of a huge number of superheroes coming from all sides of the MCU spectrum. We’re talking some of the classic Avengers, the New Avengers, the new version of the Fantastic Four, and even Wakandans. The ambitious project is set to start Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Will ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Be the Biggest MCU Movie Ever Made?
Harbour calls it “enormous,” and we can’t help but agree with the man behind Red Guardian. All Avengers films have shown us gatherings unlike anything seen before in the superhero genre, but a crossover as big as this one remains unmatched. If it isn’t the biggest MCU movie ever made, then it’s close.
The Stranger Things star wasn’t the only one who recently addressed the heavily secretive project. Channing Tatum, who played the card-wielding Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine, is set to appear as well. He had this to say to Variety (via Instagram) about the MCU installment:
“When I say a huge movie, it’s like an understatement. I don’t have a word big enough. I’m not good enough with words to explain how big this movie will be. It’s going to blow people’s minds.”
