The tale of Robin Hood has inspired countless adaptations, films, and remakes. MGM+ is adding its mark with its new series, aptly titled Robin Hood, premiering on November 2, 2025, at 9 p.m. EST. Offering a modern twist on the classic tale, Robin Hood unfolds in the aftermath of the Norman invasion of 12th-century England. The Saxons now live under the crushing rule of Norman power, one of whom is Rob (Jack Patten), the son of a Saxon forester whose world is shattered when his family is stripped of their ancestral home and his father is executed.
Out of tragedy comes love, as Rob falls for Marian (Lauren McQueen), the daughter of a Norman lord. Driven by vengeance and armed with a longbow, Rob forms a band of rebel outlaws to fight tyranny. Together, Rob and Marian battle for justice and freedom — Rob leads the outlaws, while Marian navigates the intrigues of the royal court. As they battle royal corruption and restore peace to the land, Rob transforms into the legendary figure known as Robin Hood.
The re-imagined 10-episode series stars Jack Patten, Lauren McQueen, Sean Bean, Lydia Peckham, and more. As the series makes its official debut, meet the ensemble that’s bringing Robin Hood to life.
Jack Patten Plays Robin Hood
Jack Patten stars as the lead in our story, Robin Hood. In this modern retelling, Robin is the leader of a group of outlaws and Marian’s love interest. Patten is new to the entertainment industry, with just one previous acting credit. Recently retired from a budding professional football career due to an injury, Patten turned to acting. This will be his first major role and first television role.
Head of MGM+, Michael Wright, doesn’t have any doubts that Patten was made for this role, telling Deadline: “We are very excited to cast Jack Patten in his first television series leading role. We knew immediately when we saw him that he was our ideal Robin and uniquely able to bring to life this iconic character. Jack brings unique charisma and heart to this new iteration of the classic romantic adventure of a rogue outlaw who steals from the rich to care for the poor and finds his soul mate in the equally powerful Marian.”
The rising actor is already busy and continuing to make his mark, having recently wrapped filming for the highly anticipated Netflix movie War Machine, in which he stars opposite Alan Ritchson.
Lauren McQueen Plays Marian
Lauren McQueen is the female lead opposite Jack Patten, who plays our daring and courageous maiden, Marian, in this rendition of the folktale. She falls in love with Robin Hood, and they fight together against tyrannical rule. Their romantic relationship will take center stage in this series. The English actress has previously lent her talents to Masters of the Air and Belgravia: The Next Chapter. McQueen has big shoes — or slippers, in this case — to fill as the coveted role of Marian has been played on screen by female icons such as Audrey Hepburn, Uma Thurman, and Cate Blanchett, to name a few.
Sean Bean Plays the Sheriff of Nottingham
Sean Bean (fittingly) plays the ruthless Sheriff of Nottingham. Historically, the Sheriff of Nottingham has been depicted in the folktale as an unjust tyrant who subjects the people of Nottinghamshire to unaffordable taxes and overall mistreatment. In the trailer, it’s also revealed that he killed Robin Hood’s father. Bean’s career spans over 30 years, marked by some of the most memorable roles in British and international cinema, cementing his reputation for portraying on-screen villains with striking conviction.
Lydia Peckham Plays Priscilla of Nottingham
Lydia Peckham is Priscilla of Nottingham, a determined, cunning woman who is also the Sheriff’s daughter. She understands the rules of influence and plays them to her advantage, guiding Marian — her father’s opponent — into the world of wealth and power.
Steven Waddington Plays Earl of Huntingdon
Steven Waddington plays the Earl of Huntingdon, a ruthless Norman lord and the father of Maid Marian. Waddington is known for films such as Uncharted, The Last of the Mohicans, and Edward II. He also appeared alongside Gary Oldman in the Apple TV hit series Slow Horses.
Connie Nielsen Plays Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine
Connie Nielsen certainly has a knack for playing powerful women in period pieces. Most famously known for her role in Ridley Scott’s Gladiator (2000), she’ll now take on the part of Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine. Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine was very much a real person, distinguished by her power and influence. She was queen consort of both France and England in the 12th century and mother of two English kings, Richard I, the Lionheart, and King John. She first married King Louis VII of France, and once their marriage was annulled, she married King Henry II of England.
Rounding out the leading ensemble are Marcus Fraser, Angus Castle-Doughty, and Henry Rowley. The first two episodes of Robin Hood premiere on MGM+ on November 2, 2025, with new episodes released weekly through the season finale on December 28, 2025. Stream Robin Hood on MGM+.
