One of Henry Cavill‘s biggest action movies to date, that completely flopped at the box office, is finally finding success on streaming. Henry Cavill is a fan favorite action star. He’s appeared in everything from the fantasy action series, The Witcher, to superhero action films like Man of Steel, and even dark action thrillers like Night Hunter. His next movie will take his action credentials even further, as he teams up with John Wick director, Chad Stahelski, for the upcoming Highlander reboot. But, in 2024, Henry Cavill teamed up with Guy Ritchie and another modern action star, Alan Ritchson, for an explosive World War 2 movie that not enough people have seen. It’s a good thing the film is making a streaming comeback on Starz.

Henry Cavill and Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is currently streaming on Starz, and the film has found renewed success over a year after it was released in theaters. The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is currently the ninth most popular film on Starz. Guy Ritchie assembled an all-star cast for The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. Cary Elwes, Alex Pettyfer, Eiza Gonzalez, Henry Golding, Babs Olusanmokun, Rory Kinnear, Til Schweiger, Danny Sapani, and Freddie Fox all joined Cavill and Ritchson for the non-stop action film.

Loosely based on a true story, Cavill stars as Gus March-Phillips, who leads an unconventional group of maverick soldiers during the Second World War to infiltrate Nazi Germany and turn the tide of the war. Many of the actors play real people, with Alan Ritchson portraying the Danish soldier Anders Lassen (resulting in a questionable Danish accent). The movie is filled with all the usual Guy Ritchie tricks, including snappy dialogue, sharp banter, explosive action, and dark comedy. The official synopsis reads:

“Based upon recently declassified files of the British War Department and inspired by true events, THE MINISTRY OF UNGENTLEMANLY WARFARE is an action-comedy that tells the story of the first-ever special forces organization formed during WWII by UK Prime Minister Winston Churchill and a small group of military officials including author Ian Fleming. The top-secret combat unit, composed of a motley crew of rogues and mavericks, goes on a daring mission against the Nazis using entirely unconventional and utterly “ungentlemanly” fighting techniques. Ultimately their audacious approach changed the course of the war and laid the foundation for the British SAS and modern Black Ops warfare.”

‘The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare’ Lost the Battle of the Box Office

Lionsgate

Guy Ritchie and Henry Cavill’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare was a decent hit with critics, holding a 68% Rotten Tomatoes rating. But audiences adored the movie, as it holds a far stronger 91% audience rating.

But, despite the great reviews from users, who called the film “explosive,” “one of Henry Cavill’s best,” and a “non-stop thrill ride,” The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare gave Henry Cavill another box office flop. WIth a budget of around $60 million, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare grossed just $29.7 million worldwide.
