Mouni Roy, a Kathak dancer, model, singer, and television and film actress from India, is best known for her work in Hindi films and the television business. Mouni Roy was raised in Cooch Behar (West Bengal) in a family with a filmy heritage. His mother and grandfather were well-known West Bengal theater artists. This is why she was naturally inclined to act right from the start. After completing her 12th grade at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Baburhat (West Bengal), she moved to Delhi.


She received her degree from Miranda University in Delhi, recognized by Delhi University. She enrolled in Jamia Millia Islamia University’s Mass Communication program. After completing her college studies, she began choreography and decided to move to Mumbai to pursue her dreams in Bollywood. She left her studies halfway through and moved to Mumbai. After that, she never went back to Delhi. She has been very interested in acting and art since childhood.


Since childhood, she has considered Madhubala, Waheeda, and Madhuri Rehman her idols and hopes to be a part of the industry like them. Mouni auditioned many times after arriving in Mumbai, where she faced many rejections during her early career. She first performed as a background dancer for Nahi Hona in 2004, a Bollywood song. In 2006, Mouni’s serial Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi was her first TV appearance. This earned her some industry recognition.


She played the role opposite Pulkit Samrat in this serial as Krishna Tulsi. Mouni was a part of Star One’s first season of Zara Nach Ke Dikha, where she was crowned the winner. She appeared with Gaurav Chopra in Pati Patni Aur Wo in 2008 and the serial Do Saheliyaan in 2010. Roy was the lead in Hero Hitler in Love, a Punjabi film in 2011.


She also played the role of Sati in Life OK’s mythological series Devon Ke Dev Mahadev from 2011 to 2014. Roy played the prominent role of Meera in Life OK TV’s serial Junoon Aisi Nafrat To Kaisa Ishq in 2013. She was opposite Aditya Rej. Mouni Roy and Puneet Pathak participated in the 7th Season of Colors TV’s Dance Reality Show Jhalak Dikhla Jaa. Mouni was the character Shivanya in Ekta’s supernatural TV series Naagin, which aired alongside Arjun Bjlani and Adah Khan.

Mount, also known as Shivanya, made the show a household favorite and topped all TRP charts. She became so popular that people began to know him as Shivanya, not only in India but also internationally. As a player for Arjun Bjlani’s Mumbai Tigers, she has also been a part of the Box Cricket League. Mouni Roy was also a host of & the TV dance show So You Think You Can Dance with Rithvik Dajani. She then appeared in Naagin 2, where she was the lead actress opposite Karanvir Bohra.


The audience greatly appreciated her chemistry with Arjun in Naagin and Karanvir Bohra (Naagin 2). Mouni Roy was named the highest-paid actress in Indian Television Industry after her massive success with the Naagin series. Mouni sang the voice of Mata Sita for an animated film Mahayoddha Rama in 2016. She also performed the song Nachna Aunda Nahi from the movie Tum Bin 2 that year. After achieving significant success in television, she moved to film and played the role of Monobina opposite Akshay in 2018’s Bollywood film Gold. In this Bollywood film, she played the role of Akshay’s wife, Monobina. Film critics praised her role. The box office success of Gold Movie saw it earn Rs1.5 billion worldwide. It also became the first Indian movie released in Saudi Arabian theaters. Roy performed the dance number Gali Gali in Hindi in the Hindi remake of the South Indian superhit film KGF Chapter1.


She appeared in a cameo role in Naagin 3’s final episodes in 2019, playing the part of Mahanagarani Shivangi. She starred in the Bollywood movie Romeo Akbar Walter (RAW) in 2019, where she was an Indian spy. The film earned more than Rs100 crores in India and was a massive success at the box office. Made in China was her next Bollywood film. Rajkummar Rao was her co-star. It was released at the same box office as other Bollywood films, such as Housefull 4 or Saand Ki Aankh.


Mouni Roy’s OTT debut was in 2020 with London Confidential. She played the role of Uma Kulkarni, a pregnant raw spy. She will appear in Bramhaastra, directed by Ayan Mukherji and produced to her by Karan Johar. She was featured in Dil Galti Kara Baitha Hai, sung by Jubeen Nautiyal.
