Move over, John Wick, a new dog-loving, revenge-driven action hero has arrived. The Dark Knight star Aaron Eckhart is that new hero, with the actor continuing to deliver throwback, no-nonsense action thriller fare thanks to his upcoming action thriller sequel.
Titled Muzzle: City of Wolves, the first trailer for the action thriller follow-up has now been unleashed and teases a bloody tale of revenge for Eckhart’s breaking bad cop and his canine companion. Picking up following the events of 2023’s Muzzle, Muzzle: City of Wolves follows former officer Jake Rosser as he attempts to live a peaceful life and tackle his personal demons. Of course, we all know how this goes, and Rosser soon finds himself once again picking up a gun and standing alongside his trusted K-9 pooch when he’s targeted by a ruthless gang.
Directed by John Stalberg Jr., written by Jacob Michael King, and starring Tanya van Graan, Karl Thaning, Nicole Fortuin, Adrian Collins, and Hakeem Kae-Kazim, alongside Aaron Eckhart, Muzzle: City of Wolves is due to hit in theaters on November 14, 2025, and you can check out both the trailer and the official synopsis below…
“Jake Rosser is haunted by PTSD from his days as a K-9 officer and endeavors to lead a peaceful life with his family and retired K-9 companion, Socks. But the tranquility quickly dissolves when a ruthless gang targets them in a brutal attack. Determined to protect his loved ones, Jake and his new K-9 partner Argos delve into a violent underbelly of crime where Jake confronts corrupt officials, uncovers a perilous drug trafficking ring and battles his own inner demons.”
‘Muzzle: City of Wolves’ Promises to Continue the Throwback Action Movie Delights of Its Predecessor
Released back in 2023, the first Muzzle introduced audiences to Aaron Eckhart as a Los Angeles police officer who, alongside his K-9 partner, tries to uncover a vast conspiracy that has a chokehold on the city. The action thriller proved divisive among critics and audiences, with the former scoring the movie just 36% on Rotten Tomatoes, while the latter was more enamored with the throwback action delights, scoring Muzzle a more respectable 67%.
While critics could not help but heap praise on the dog, many felt that Muzzle was far too convoluted and forgettable. However, Film Threat’s Alan Ng found a lot to enjoy, calling Muzzle “a fresh, gritty take on the broken cop and his dog story.” Turning to audiences, Rotten Tomatoes reactions again praise the inclusion of a dog, while also commending Muzzle’s commitment to telling an old-school, gritty detective story. “This movie was excellent – good for all dog lovers,” says one five-star reaction. Others felt seen by the lack of “woke” elements, with this user saying, “A well made simple and solid story. Gritty performances that feel true to life. No contrived social BS. Solid film making,” while another concludes “This is the movie we need right now. No woke bs.”
In recent years, Aaron Eckhart has led several crowd-pleasingly simple action thrillers, including Line of Duty, Rumble Through the Dark, The Bricklayer, and Classified, with Muzzle: City of Wolves being the latest offering.
