Predator: Badlands has only been in theaters for a few weeks and has already set a number of benchmarks for the franchise and the talent involved, but the nature of the Easter egg-filled spin-off has many fans wondering when the movie will land on streaming so that each scene can be dissected. Filmmaker Dan Trachtenberg made his first foray into the Predator franchise with 2022’s Prey, a Hulu exclusive that earned the series some of its best reviews, effectively cementing himself as the mastermind of the Predator’s future. Following this year’s animated Predator: Killer of Killers, Trachtenberg delivered Badlands, the first theatrical Predator release since 2018’s The Predator.
Since hitting theaters on November 7, Badlands has taken in $159.5 million worldwide. This number was likely helped by the fact that this is the first PG-13 entry into the saga since 2004’s Alien vs. Predator, as well as Badlands being screened in premium formats. The movie hasn’t just been a hit with general audiences, but it sits at 86% positive reviews on aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, putting it only behind Killer of Killers and Badlands.
What to Know About the Digital Release of ‘Predator: Badlands’
Even though the film hasn’t yet earned an at-home release date, with Predator: Badlands being produced by 20th Century Studios, it is expected to debut on Hulu and Disney+ simultaneously. As with many other titles from the studio, audiences can likely expect the movie to premiere 90-100 days from its release date, which would approximately be the week of Monday, February 2, 2026.
If Badlands follows a similar strategy to the home video release of Alien: Romulus, then Badlands will be available for digital purchase on January 7, 2026, and hit physical media the week after its Hulu and Disney+ release. Given how little time has elapsed since the movie’s theatrical release, 20th Century Studios could pull out a number of unexpected releases for home video, whether it’s rushed home in time for the holidays or has its theatrical window extended.
What Else Can ‘Predator’ Fans Expect in the Future?
It’s difficult to overstate how much Trachtenberg has helped revive the Predator franchise, especially given the underwhelming output the series has earned over the last few decades. The two Alien vs. Predator movies, 2010’s Predators, and 2018’s The Predator all failed to evoke much excitement in die-hard fans or newcomers.
The release of Badlands completes Trachtenberg’s plans of telling three stories in this world (Prey, Killer of Killers, and Badlands) and the next adventure for Predator has yet to be confirmed. Trachtenberg himself revealed that official decisions about the series’ future has yet to be determined while speaking with The Direct:
I think this movie just has to do well, and hopefully it will. But should it? Should it, I would certainly love to make more. There’s plenty more ideas in the hopper, for sure.
Ever since the debut 1987 Predator, the universe hasn’t been contained to one medium. Thanks to novels, comic books, toys, and video games, the mythology thrived throughout the ’80s and ’90s. With Marvel Comics having acquired the rights to Predator comics, having released titles like Predator vs. Wolverine, Predator vs. Spider-Man, and Predator Kills the Marvel Universe released in recent years, the spirit of the Yautja will be kept alive as fans wait for the next big-screen outing.
