Ryan Reynolds, the actor best-known for the likes of Deadpool & Wolverine, The Adam Project and Free Guy, is showing the world that there’s a part of Hollywood that’s still capable of simple acts of kindness. Reynolds has made a significant donation to 13-year-old Lexi Collins, a young girl in Wales who has been diagnosed with a rare type of cancer. On the fundraising page, Lexi says she wants to go to New York City and accomplish her dream of being in the Big Apple. Reynolds is helping Lexi follow that dream, and has made a significant donation of £10,000 ($13,638) to the cause.
Revealed by @wrexhampolicefc, Reynolds’ donation was made a few days ago, and the campaign has now surpassed the initial goal of £5000. They have raised £13,670 (which is close to $18,682) to date. Collins was diagnosed with a rare form of aggressive cancer earlier this year and has already undergone multiple open-heart surgeries. The treatment will now see her undergo chemotherapy. The donation site indicates that “despite everything, she still dreams big, and her biggest wish is to visit New York when she’s well enough… Every single donation, no matter the size, brings Lexi closer to New York. If you can’t give, please share this page far and wide, it makes a real difference.”
On the GoFundMe page, Lexi’s mother, Rebecca Collins, wrote a very emotional message. She shows her gratitude for those who have helped Lexi follow her dream:
“I am absolutely blown away with the kindness and generosity of you all, because of you all my beautiful girl will get to see New York (keep everything crossed that she’s well enough!) Lexi wants to thank everyone, she is making sure she smashes her chemotherapy, because in her words, ‘I’m not letting cancer stop me going to New York!’ She’s already picking her outfits, she has a list of things she wants to see, and we even watched Home Alone (AGAIN) last night haha!! I am so proud of everyone running fundraisers in Lex’s name, you give me the strength to keep going. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!!! Becky, Brad and Lex (Mum & Step Dad).”
Ryan Reynolds’ Ventures Outside Hollywood Include… Soccer?
Ryan Reynolds doesn’t just have the time to star in Hollywood blockbusters and tease his fans with the possible return of his memorable character Deadpool. In 2020, Reynolds and his friend Rob Mac (formerly known as Rib McElhenney) decided to satisfy their passion for sport and purchase a struggling soccer team. They are now the owners of Wrexham A.F.C., a Welsh team competing in the English Football League Championship, with the Hollywood A-lister’s buyout going on to spawn the hit documentary series Welcome to Wrexham.
However, Lexi’s fundraiser is organized by another soccer team, the Wrexham Police FC, a team of off-duty police agents who are behind Lexi’s GoFundMe page, and they took to X to show their appreciation for Reynolds’’significant contribution:
“A huge thank you to our friend @VancityReynolds for once again showing his incredible generosity. Because of his support, Lexi will be heading to New York when she’s feeling well enough. Not all heroes wear capes, this one wears a red and black suit. Thank you!”
