The most underrated action hero of the modern age is barreling towards free streaming. Taking the best qualities of John Wick and Rambo and smashing them together into an explosion of violence and very few words, it’s high time you discover this particular vengeful killer…especially when he’s got a critically acclaimed sequel coming in November.

Written and directed by Jalmari Helander, the Finnish action thriller Sisu was released back in 2022 and stars Jorma Tommila as Aatami Korpi alongside Aksel Hennie, Jack Doolan, Mimosa Willamo, and Onni Tommila. The brutal and bloody action outing follows a mysterious lone prospector who, after being robbed by a group of Nazi soldiers during the last days of World War II, must wage a one-man war of his own. And what a war it is.

Sisu, which was finally given an equally acclaimed sequel earlier this year, is now all set to land on the free streaming platform Tubion November 1, 2025. While you wait, you can check out the official synopsis for the action thriller war outing below…

“During the last desperate days of WWII, a solitary prospector (Jorma Tommila) crosses paths with Nazis on a scorched-earth retreat in northern Finland. When the Nazis steal his gold, they quickly discover that they have just tangled with no ordinary miner.

While there is no direct translation for the Finnish word “sisu”, this legendary ex-commando will embody what sisu means: a white-knuckled form of courage and unimaginable determination in the face of overwhelming odds. And no matter what the Nazis throw at him, the one-man death squad will go to outrageous lengths to get his gold back — even if it means killing every last Nazi in his path.”

‘Sisu’ Cemented Itself as a No-Nonsense Action Masterpiece

Nordisk Film

Sisu quickly cemented itself as a no-nonsense action masterpiece, landing rave reviews and reaching heights of 94% from critics and 88% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. Smashing together action thrills amid a WWII setting, Sisu was praised by the former for being “deliriously gory” and for its success in providing “bloody satisfaction to action aficionados,” and by the latter for being a “gory grindhouse good time” as well as revealing “what it might look like if John Wick went up against Nazis.”

A Sisu sequel has finally been thrown at us like a very welcome grenade, with Sisu: Road to Revenge due to hit theaters in the United States in November. The follow-up once again centers on Jorma Tommila as the mysterious former World War II commando Aatami Korpi, as he becomes hellbent on taking out bloody vengeance on the ones who killed his family.

Much like its predecessor, Sisu: Road to Revenge has been met with an overwhelmingly positive reaction from critics, and currently stands at a near-perfect 95% on Rotten Tomatoes. MovieWeb’s own Zachary Lee hailed Sisu: Road to Revenge as “the Bonkers, Bloodsoaked Sequel Fans Have Been Waiting For.”

“If you’re wondering who might win in a fight between a cargo truck and a fighter plane, this film provides the gory, blood-soaked answer — laws of physics be damned.”
