“Especially as we get into Volume 2, we start to answer more and more why Will was kidnapped and how it ties in with Holly and all of this. Everything sort of comes full circle.”

Ross Duffer expanded on what Volume 2 of Season 5 has in store, letting fans know that “pretty early on” in their Christmas Day release, Stranger Things will finally peel back the layers of The Upside Down. The creators promised to “explain what it is,” with the Netflix hit finally set to reveal something that has been a decade in the making. Ross Duffer said:

“That really is a Volume 2 thing, where we really get into the Upside Down, and we explain what it is. Again, this is something that has been planned for 10 years now, and it just now, obviously is the time to reveal it.”
