The hype for seeing One Battle After Another in theaters has seemingly died down, and audiences might be wondering when they’ll get to stream the hit 2025 film at home. After all, the movie received positive reviews from critics and audiences alike, was briefly the target of controversy, and could be a major awards contender. It’s also one of the best films by one of our greatest living filmmakers, Paul Thomas Anderson. On top of all of that, Warner Bros. just announced a digital release date of November 20 ahead of the physical release on 4K and Blu-ray in January.

The film, which stars Leonardo DiCaprio alongside newcomer Chase Infiniti, doesn’t have an exact streaming release date yet. Luckily, Warner Bros. is pretty consistent when bringing their movies to streaming. Based on HBO Max‘s track record, One Battle After Another should come to the streaming service around December 12.

‘One Battle After Another’ Should Come to HBO Max in December

Warner Bros. Pictures

Most of the films Warner Bros. has distributed this year have premiered on HBO Max 77 days after their theatrical release. That was the case for A Minecraft Movie, Sinners, Final Destination Bloodlines, and Weapons. If One Battle After Another follows the same schedule, it should release on HBO Max on December 12, which is 77 days after One Battle After Another‘s September 26 release date. There’s a chance it comes out maybe a week earlier or later, considering films like Superman broke the streaming service’s pattern by one week.

That won’t be the only way to watch Anderson’s latest, of course. One Battle After Another is expected to release on digital retailers such as Fandango at Home, Apple TV, and Prime Video on November 20. The film will initially be available to purchase for $25 before the price drops, and it becomes available to rent. One Battle After Another also has a 4K Blu-ray on the way, which won’t come until next year. The One Battle After Another physical release arrives on January 20, 2026, with 4K Blu-ray, regular Blu-ray, and DVD options available for pre-order.

These release dates would fit perfectly with Warner Bros. making a big awards campaign push for One Battle After Another. Nominations for the Golden Globes will be announced December 8, and the ceremony will air on January 11, 2026. Oscar nominations will follow on January 22, 2026, and the ceremony will air on March 15, 2026. Warner Bros. choosing to release the film on streaming in the winter would help ensure that awards voters see the film early enough to vote for it. Regular audiences who see the film on streaming could also help drum up hype.

Why ‘One Battle After Another’ Is a Major Awards Contender

Chase Infiniti and Regina Hall in One Battle After Another Warner Bros.

One Battle After Another needs that end-of-year boost because it has a serious chance to win multiple Oscars. The film tells the story of a father and former revolutionary and his daughter on the run from a crooked military colonel hell-bent on revenge. It’s well-made, engaging, and surprisingly funny. It’s also relevant for this moment, considering that the villain is part of a secret organization of white supremacists.

The film also boasts a terrific collection of actors who could all be in contention for the acting categories. Leonardo DiCaprio is the star, and he’s great, but the rest of the cast gives him a run for his money. Chase Infiniti is incredible as DiCaprio’s daughter, especially considering this is her first film role. Sean Penn plays the antagonist, Colonel Steven J. Lockjaw, and he impressively commits to all of his character’s wild traits. Benicio del Toro, Regina Hall, and Teyana Taylor are terrific in supporting roles as revolutionaries, each with a different approach. Benicio del Toro plays his character as a comedic relief, Taylor plays hers as an extremist, and Hall plays as a gentler counterpart.

The film’s Oscar chances could be boosted by the fact that its director has never won an Oscar. Paul Thomas Anderson has been nominated for an Academy Award 11 times, but he’s never won, and One Battle After Another could certainly be his chance. It’s one of his best films, and viewers have been recognizing that. He’d potentially be nominated in three categories — Best Picture as a producer, Best Director as a director, and Best Adapted Screenplay as a writer. All three of those categories would likely pit the film against Hamnet, which looks like it will be another big awards contender. Still, it’s Anderson’s best chance to get the recognition he deserves.
