Wicked: For Good isn’t just defying gravity, but also potential box office records. The follow-up to 2024’s Wicked, Wicked: For Good, is anticipated to be one of the biggest movies of the year. Tickets for the highly anticipated fantasy film went on sale on Oct. 8, 2025, and have quickly become one of Fandango’s biggest pre-sellers.

According to Deadline, Wicked: For Good is Fandango’s biggest ticket seller of 2025 to date and also the biggest PG-rated ticket seller of all time on the service. Wicked: For Good has already surpassed the advanced tickets sold for other 2025 headliners like Superman, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle, Taylor Swift | The Official Release Party of a Showgirl, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Initial box office tracking had Wicked: For Good opening between $112 to $115 million, and some box office analysts now predict it could be higher. EVP of Fandango Jerramy Hainline said in a statement:

“With fans shattering records on Fandango when tickets first went on sale for Wicked: For Good, it was clear that this electrifying finale to the worldwide sensation would soar to the same heights as the first film. Audiences are in for a true cinematic event as they return to Oz, experiencing it on the biggest screen possible as it was meant to be seen.

While Wicked: For Good‘s advance ticket sales don’t necessarily translate to mean a record-breaking box office weekend, they certainly are a strong indicator of box office appeal. Both the biggest opening weekend of 2025 and the biggest PG-rated opening of the year belong to A Minecraft Movie, which opened to $162.7 million. Wicked: For Good‘s projections right now are $50 million off, but it could feasibly climb higher. The question is whether it can surpass the opening weekends for fellow PG-related musicals, 2017’s Beauty and the Beast ($174.7 million) and 2019’s The Lion King ($191.7 million). A good point of comparison might be Frozen II, another popular follow-up to a musical opening the same weekend as Wicked: For Good. Frozen II had an opening weekend of $130.2 million, a number that seems reasonable for Wicked: For Good to reach.

What will be the biggest determining factor for Wicked: For Good’s opening weekend will be the amount of walk-up ticket sales the movie is able to generate. Most PG family-related movies might not shatter advanced ticket sales but still generate great numbers, with the highest-grossing film of 2024, Inside Out 2, grossing $154.2 million in its opening weekend. With the Thanksgiving holiday weekend shortly after, some moviegoers might wait to see Wicked: For Good with the holiday family in the film’s second weekend.

Wicked: For Good, along with the likes of Zootopia 2 and Avatar: Fire and Ash, are set to see a big rebound at the box office following a record-low October. The first Wicked held incredibly well weekend after weekend through the holidays, bolstered by incredible word of mouth. Buzz for Wicked: For Good has been incredibly strong, with the film already riding some Oscar buzz. Wicked grossed $473.2 million domestically and $756.7 million worldwide, and all eyes are on whether Wicked: For Good will fall out, match, or exceed its predecessor.
